This was basically the most popular form of VR just before Oculus brought on the consumer resurgence, except it was mostly only in college institutions and businesses with enough money+interest to build one. Ultra niche and pretty much just for research.
Do any colleges still have one of these or have they all pretty much transitioned to HMD-based VR? One thing that was nice about CAVE tech is that it didn’t require you to strap a screen to your face. Shutter glasses needed to be worn (similar to Nvidia 3D Vision) which included tracking sensors, and that’s it.
